ALPINE FLOORS

Question: Will there be much dust?

Answer: There is no such thing as 100% dustless machines, but because we have fairly new machines and we frequently maintain them, dust is kept down to a bare minimum. (see comments under 'DUST' in the Handy Hints section of this site.

Question: How long will it take?

Answer: In most cases, the job will be completed in about three to four days. Smaller jobs can be done in one to two days. We can now apply three coats in one day for smaller jobs.

Question: What type of coating do you use and how many coats will be applied?

Answer: We use a high quality range of coatings and apply a minimum of three coats. We can use a HIGH GLOSS finish for extra shine. Some people may wish to have a different finish, for example a SATIN or SEMI-GLOSS finish. More coats can be applied if requested.

Question: What does sanding and polishing cost?

Answer: Depending on the type, size and condition of the floor, costs can range from $20 to $35 per square metre. Still cheaper than installing carpet or lino.

Question: What are the benefits of having my floors sanded and polished?

Answer: Your floors will not only look like a million dollars, they will be easy to clean and maintain, and they will not harbour dust and dust-mites as does carpet.

Question: How soon before I can walk on the floor?

Answer: In most cases you can walk on the floor the next day. Furniture can be carefully placed back after a few days. It takes about seven days for the polyurethane to fully cure.

Question: Will my polished floors be too cold?

Answer: Timber can be a natural insulation and while it may not be as warm underfoot as carpet, it certainly is not as cold as tiles or lino. A nice warm pair of slippers on a cold morning is always a good idea no matter what your floor covering is.
